Al Olson
May 11, 2009
For Immediate Release:
The black and white images created by Al Olson share a timeless reflection of landscapes that requires the viewer to use their own imagination to interpret the composition. Sort of, landscapes within landscapes. Through hand processed negatives and prints in the darkroom, using the silver gelatin emulsions for black and white prints and chromogenic emulsion for color prints, Al avoids the temptations of digital processing. His images portray the fundamentals of photography in a refined, artful presentation.
Al has dedicated himself to the medium and large format cameras, some will call them vintage cameras now. The controlled dynamics of Black and White photography are emphasized in his work. He works extensively with Infrared film to portray dramatic textures, tones and detail of his subjects. The prints have the finest grain, tightly controlled depth of field and superior tonal range.
Locally, Al’s work has been displayed at the Art Shows of Shy Rabbit Contemporary Arts Gallery, The Pagosa Springs Arts Council Gallery and several other businesses and public places. He also had a successful exhibit at Pagosa Photography Studio and Gallery in 2003. His consummate passion for Photography has led him to be a strong lead in the Pagosa Springs Photography Club and its activities. Regionally his accomplishments have taken favor with The Kent Denver Art Show for 6 years, acceptance in The Center for Southwest Studies Juried Photography for 5 years in a row and also The Durango Arts Center has displayed his work.
