The Pagosa Waldorf Initiative introduces the Treasure Mountain Educational Cooperative. In the 2009/10 school year Treasure Mountain will offer first and second grades. Enrollment is limited to twelve students and the early enrollment deadline is May 15, 2009. 

 

Treasure Mountain is a Waldorf–inspired educational program designed to give children the strongest possible start in both life and education. The curriculum includes language arts, mathematics, science, foreign languages, handwork, artwork, music and outdoor education.

 

While many schools today focus on academic drills and testing in children as young as pre-school and kindergarten, Treasure Mountain emphasizes the nurturing and development of the whole child. The interdisciplinary approach brings subjects alive to children and provides a multi-dimensional understanding of the various subjects and the world around them. The lessons are structured to be developmentally appropriate and to inspire in children both curiosity and active participation.

 

Children who have the opportunity to explore and develop in this rich and diverse learning environment are naturally well prepared for any future endeavor. Recent studies confirming the tremendous academic and personal success of students who graduate from Waldorf schools come as no surprise to parents who understand and value this holistic approach to education.
