Sourrounded by over 3 million acres of national forest and wilderness areas, you’ll find yourself in the center of nature’s playground in Pagosa Springs. With the San Juan Mountains and a variety of outdoor activities at your doorstep, along with hot springs, charming shops, historic sites, and an assortment of artisans, you'll find plenty to do in Pagosa.
Within the surrounding national forest, visitors to Pagosa Springs can enjoy exploring the beautiful San Juan mountains during a four wheeling adventure, either by bringing your own vehicle or renting an ATV for a few hours or days.
The Forest Service's Motor Vehicle Use Map is used to enforce travel rules within the Pagosa Ranger District (it does not identify non-motorized recreation opportunities).

East Fork /Elwood Pass (FDR667)
This 4x4 trail is the “real thing” and the best off-road experience in the Pagosa Country area. It climbs about 18 miles to the top of the Continental Divide and meets with a forest access road just east of the divide. Once on top there are a lot of interesting things to do in the Elwood Pass/Summitville area.
Blue Creek 4x4 Trail
This is a fun ride that doesn’t go anywhere important. The trail is a “roller coaster” type ride with enough challenge to keep you awake. The trail is about 13 miles long and connects The Blanco Road, 7 miles south of Pagosa to the Buckles Lake Road near Chromo, Colorado. There are some shorter 4x4 trails off the main route to try as time allows.
For more information on 4x4 trails in Pagosa Country, stop by the Forest Service office at 180 2nd St in downtown Pagosa.

While in town, stop by the Visitor Center, located in downtown Pagosa Springs, next to the Springs Resort, along the San Juan River. It's a great place to learn more about our amazing area, discover new things to do and meet some friendly locals in the process. View map & directions.
