Narrow Gauge Day! Help us celebrate as we begin another season of continuous train operation between Durango and Silverton since 1882. Join in the fun and festivities on Friday (Narrow Gauge Day) and Saturday (Silverton Kickoff).
We'll kick off the opening of summer service to Silverton with the annual FREE PICNIC and community celebration at the Durango depot. Our fantastic volunteer staff will be grilling hot dogs and serving chips and soda from 11:00AM -2:00PM. Watch for Snoopy to be dancing to the beat of the Bar D Wranglers strumming and singing some great Colorado songs! Join us for the fun!! Interesting railroad equipment will be on display. Tours will be available and we invite you to visit the D&SNG Railroad Museum with new exhibits added regularly. The model train is beloved by kids of all ages and is continually receiving enhancements. Also, be sure to check out the Animas River Display featuring a 600 gallon aquarium currently stocked with rainbow trout.
Be sure to arrive early to pick up a free tree seedling! Owner/CEO Al Harper purchases seedlings every year for you to take home and lovingly plant to help offset the world's carbon footprint!
RIDE ONE OF THE FIRST TRAINS: Join us onboard one of the first Silverton Trains of the season departing Durango Saturday at 8:45AM and 9:30AM. These will be the first passenger trains to Silverton for the 2019 season. Historic Narrators will be dressed in period clothing and will stroll through the cars to tell a bit of history and provide a sampling of the daily Historic Narration offered daily during the Silverton season.
